Offshore Wind Learning for schools

To attract people to offshore wind, we’ve been asked to create different versions for school children. We have partnered with two excellent organisations to make this a reality.

The main Offshore Wind Learning course is also available, suitable for bright sixth formers i.e. 16-18 year-olds.

Secondary schools

Specifically, 11-14-year-olds. At that age students make their fundamental career choices e.g. to follow sciences or humanities. Well, with help from an excellent headteacher, we’ve done it!

The course has been distilled into 12 Lesson Plans plus a Scheme of Work, so teachers have a ready-made resource with which they can inspire their pupils.

The intent is for the lessons to be presented under the topic of Climate Science, but some lessons may also be applicable in Physics, Geography, Design and Technology, Economics, and other subjects.

The material is suitable for use in any country worldwide, rather than being tailored to a specific national curriculum.

Primary schools

We collaborated with the Westmill Energy Co-op to create a version suitable for primary school children.

This Lesson Plan, Delivery Guide and Presentation Pack is offered courtesy of a partnership between WeSET and Offshore Wind Learning.

The lesson will enable all learners to understand what offshore wind energy is, understand the benefits of locating turbines offshore, and identify key components of an offshore wind farm.
